Literature Text

That afternoon, Corrin was walking back to her room, hoping that Felicia hadn’t destroyed everything.  Opening her door, she found only Jakob there.

“Hello, Jakob.  Where did Felicia and Flora go?”

“They went to the kitchen to get lunch ready.  I’ve been able to get more unpacking done since then.”

Smiling, Corrin picked up a shirt and started to put it away.

“You don’t need to bother, Lady Corrin.  I can do this myself.”

“I want to do this, Jakob.  I need to get my mind off of things.”

“Oh?  Do you need to talk about it, Milady?”

“I’m Ok, Jakob.”

Suddenly, Elise burst in.  She looked as if she was worried about something.

“Corrin!  Father wants to see you quickly!  He says he has something for you to do.”

Corrin didn’t know what to think of that.  Was King Garon going to give her another chance to prove herself?

“Very well.  I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

Putting down the shirt, she walked out the door and started heading to the throne room.  As she walked, she kept thinking of how she failed and how she never wanted to kill anyone.  All she wanted was to be accepted as an adult by her father.  When she reached the doors and they opened for her again, she was even more nervous than when she started out.

“Corrin.  Thank you for coming.”

She walked forward and bowed, trying to calm herself a bit before she spoke.

“Is there something that I need to do?”

Garon smiled at her, reassuring her that everything was all right.

“Yes.  I have been informed that there is a border fort that can be used to defend Nohr.  I want you go inspect it.”

Corrin was shocked.  Instead of a battle, he was sending her on a reconnaissance mission?  That seemed more suited to her.

“That shouldn’t be too hard, Father.  I’ll go right away.”

As she was about to turn to get her sword, he stopped her for a minute.

“Wait.  Since you will be near the border, you may encounter Hoshidans.  I want you to take Hans and Gunter with you in case you are forced to battle.”

“I see.  I’ll try not to fail you again.”

As soon as that was settled, Corrin retrieved her sword and met with her two allies.  That evening, they were at the Bottomless Canyon.

“So, Gunter, do you know where this fort is?”

Gunter looked down from his horse.  He had agreed to teach Corrin the basics of combat before Xander took over her training.  He was still one of her closest mentors, often sparring with her to sharpen skills that she learned from Xander.

“We should be getting close.  Keep on your guard.”

Glancing over at Hans, she grew nervous.  He hadn’t spoken much and just looked at her with a cold gaze.  Xander had warned her about how he wasn’t the most moral man, telling her to be careful around him.  He had once been arrested for killing a man over a card game.

Once they started to cross the bridge, the fort came into view.

“There it is!  Let’s be careful, though.”

In her focus on the fort, she didn’t notice Hans walking up behind Gunter.

“Yes.  Watch out for things like THIS!”

He lifted his axe and brought it on the boards beneath Gunter, causing him to fall into the abyss.  Corrin turned around just as that happened.

“Wha-GUNTER!”

She started to run towards the scene, drawing her sword.  Hans turned towards her causing her to freeze in her tracks.

“Now to finish the job.”

He tried to hit her, but she dodged it at the last second.  However, he was quicker and knocked her to the ground on the backswing.

In her rage, she ignored a strange roaring sound in her ears.  Standing up, she saw him stepping away as her sight seemed to tint red.

“You… you… I WON’T FORGIVE YOU!!!”

Suddenly, it seemed as if she attacked on instinct.  She seemed to legitimately want to kill him.  After only a few seconds, she had given him an awful wound in his side.  Her animalistic behavior frightened him so much, he ran away.  As the red faded, Corrin realized just what happened.

Knowing that she would have no chance in the event where she did encounter Hoshidans, Corrin decided to return to Windmire.  She would tell her Father why she couldn’t complete the mission and explain what happened to Gunter.

Before she could act on those plans, however, she heard a twig break behind her.  Turning around, she caught a glimpse of white and red before being tackled to the ground.  The blur grabbed her arms and held her down so she couldn’t move much.  The ninja from before appeared out of nowhere right in front of her.  It was then that she realized how they had managed to get so close to the capital without being spotted.  She tried to struggle, but Rinkah held her tight.  Quickly Kaze pulled out a vial of liquid, pressed a cloth to it, and put it up against her mouth and nose.

Realizing what they were trying to do, Corrin tried to fight against both Rinkah’s hold and the chloroform, but it was too much for her to handle.  In resisting, she had to take a few breaths, but that was enough for them.  Her vision started to fade to black and she felt as if her energy was being drained.  Soon, she just stopped resisting.  She couldn’t escape the hold and she was growing more tired by the second.  As she was cast into sleep, she only heard a vague voice.

“Pleasant dreams, Princess Corrin.”
Ok.  Now Corrin is sent on that mission that went horribly wrong, and this time... well... you know.  I hope people enjoy the changes that I make.  I have a vivid imagination, so I can see events clearly in my head.  This makes it a bit easier to write.

Standard procedures.
Fire Emblem Fates belongs to Nintendo.
The story here belongs to me.

Constructive criticism is welcomed.  I don't want to ruin the story.

So, quick little grammar thing I want to note, 'Xander had warned her about how he wasn't the most moral man, telling her to 'be' careful around him.' You forgot a 'be' in that sentence. Not that big a deal but my inner grammar nazi is spazzing out^^;...

Anywho, this is an interesting take on the whole 'Gunter falls into the abyss' thing. I like that you gave a bit more background on Gunter and Corrin's relationship. It makes him a bit more relatable, which was something I honestly struggled with in my playthroughs.

I also liked that you hinted at Corrin's inner dragon instincts here. It's interesting to think that she might have felt them earlier than she did in the actual game, even if it was just for a split second. I think it'll be even more dramatic now when she actually fully transforms.

And finally (oi lotta comments...) I think it's interesting that you threw Kaze into the mix with her capture. I wonder how that'll go down.

Ok, now I'm done^^; Can't wait for the next chapter! :eager:
