Literature Text

After a full day’s ride, Corrin and the others arrived at Windmire, the capital of Nohr.  They didn’t encounter any trouble, but they were sure to have scouts around the area in case the Hoshidans tried anything.

Corrin was relieved that nothing was out of the ordinary.  She focused on unpacking, but soon she heard a knock at the door.

“Lady Corrin?  May we help you unpack?”

“Of course, Felicia.  Come in.”

Her servants, Felicia, Jakob, and Flora, all came in and started to open her bags.  Felicia immediately tripped over her own two feet and had to be caught by Flora.

“Perhaps you should go, Lady Corrin.  Your father will be waiting for you.  We’ll finish up, if Felicia will stop tripping up.”

“Thank you, Flora.”

Soon, Corrin was walking down the halls of the castle.  She was nervous about what her father would say.  She hoped that he would recognize that she was an adult now, and could take care of herself.

“Corrin!  You ready to see Father?”

Elise ran up and started walking beside her.  Smiling, Corrin felt a bit more relaxed.

“I think so, Elise.  I just hope that I won’t disappoint him.”

“Don’t worry, big sister.  You’ll do great!”

Soon they arrived at the throne room.  The guards opened the doors and they walked in, seeing that Xander, Camilla, and Leo were already there, waiting with King Garon.

“Ah.  Corrin.  Elise.  I’m glad to see you two here.”

They stepped forward and stood by their siblings.  Their father stood up from his throne.

“You’ve been away for a long time.  I’ve heard a lot about your progress.  I am proud of how you improved against the odds, and even managed to defeat Xander in a training bout.”

He stood up and came toward Corrin, a look of pride in his eyes.

“You’re ready for your final challenge.”

Nodding to some nearby guards, they ran off for some reason.  Garon handed Corrin a sword, earning himself a confused look.

“The final challenge for you is to defeat two Hoshidans in combat.  They were found inside our border, scouting out our capital, and I want you to display your strength against them

Putting his hand on her shoulder, he led her to the arena.  Once she was situated, two people were pushed in, a woman of the Flame Tribe, and a green haired Ninja.  Walking forward, Corrin waited for them to stand.

“Speak your names, Hoshidans.”

The woman stood up first, adjusting the oni mask on her head.

“I am Rinkah, daughter of the chief of the Flame Tribe.”

The ninja stood, his eyes flashing in rage.

“I am Kaze.  A ninja.  What is your name, Nohrian?”

“I am Corrin, princess of Nohr, and your challenger.”

The ninja’s face turned from one of rage to one of shock, but only for a moment.

“Then, Corrin, show us what you can do, if you want to keep your life.”

He rushed forward, shuriken in his hands.  Quickly blocking, she tried to guard any attacks that he sent her way.  Rinkah rushed up to the fight, trying to knock Corrin out and give Kaze the upper hand.  Seeing this, she rolled out of the way and counterattacked, cutting her arm.  Kaze soon regained his footing and dashed away, putting a bit of distance between the fight.  Corrin quickly injured Rinkah and knocked her away.  Suddenly, she felt a powerful force calling her towards the center of the room.  Realizing that it was a dragon vein, she ran towards it.  Harnessing the power, she summoned a wave of energy, which hit both Kaze and Rinkah.

Afterwards, Corrin was tired, but both Hoshidans were on the ground, unable to fight anymore.

“Well done, Corrin.  Now, finish them.”

Looking up at her father, then back to the Hoshidans, the young princess felt a bit of shock.  The two were already defeated.  On top of that, Corrin had never taken a life before.  Training matches were one thing.  Actual killing was another.

During her moments of uncertainty, Kaze took an opportunity and pulled out a smoke bomb and detonated it, distracting her and leaving an opening for the Hoshidans to escape.  Leaping out a window, they were soon gone.  King Garon and Xander came into the arena.

“You hesitated, Corrin.  If you hadn’t waited, you would have killed them.”

Corrin just hung her head in shame.  She knew there was nothing that could say to make up for how she failed.  Seeing this, her father laid his hand on her shoulder in comfort.

“You haven’t completely failed, daughter.  You have shown that you are capable of the legendary Dragon Vein technique.  You’ve become strong enough and tactical enough to manage a fight with unknown opponents.  While you didn’t finish the job, you will be of great help with defending the country.”

“I hope to not disappoint you again, Father.”
Ok.  At this part, you'll start to really see some big changes in the overall story.  I'll let you figure out what the one that I'm referring to is.  Hint.  I think it's at least a little better than what the writers did in the story.

Anyway, I'm working on the other chapters, and I'm thinking of how often I should submit chapters.  I think about once every week, but what do you think?

Here's the usual crediting shtik.

Fire Emblem Fates belongs to Nintendo.
The story here belongs to me.

*Edit* I found a grammar error and I fixed it.
*Edit 2* I just realized that Kaze just pulled out the smoke bomb.  Changed that slightly.

Once again, I really like this take on the story. Not only with the first fight against Rinkah and Kaze, but also with Garon. If I'm honest, it's kinda strange to see him being so forgiving and fatherly (if not slightly unsettling too) but I kinda like it. As revivedracer209 said, it does kinda make him look more human, and if you do plan to make him an antagonist later in the story that can have a much bigger impact on Corrin and the others. Overall keep up the good work! :D

Also, I think once-a-week updates would be perfect.

Again, I'll comment again once I have some input from Kaitlyn.
